JFK redevelopment bids still up in air

Since July of 2017 when Port Authority first sought bids for JFK redevelopment, airlines, private equity, developers and terminal operators had met and given the Port Authority plans and bids for JFK Airport rehab. Since then, all parties have been expecting word from the Port Authority on awards for developing the terminals at JFK Airport. Now six months later, they are biting their nails. Read more…

FAA still limits JFK flights

The United States FAA extended the order which limits total aircraft movements at New York JFK International Airport until Oct. 24, 2020. The order limits the number of arrivals and departures at JFK through the implementation of the High Density Rule (HDR). FAA maintained the current hourly limits of 81 scheduled operations at JFK during the peak period, imposed an 80 percent minimum usage requirement for Operating Authorizations (OAs) with defined exceptions, provided a mechanism for withdrawal of OAs for FAA operational reasons, established procedures to allocate withdrawn, surrendered, or unallocated OAs and allowed for trades and leases of OAs for consideration for the duration of the Order. Airline Briefs

The airline industry is filled with rumors on Emirates buying Etihad. Emirates recently denied media reports that it was in talks to acquire Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways, saying “there is no truth to this rumor.” The official statement came after a news report said Emirates is “looking at taking over” Etihad to create the world’s largest carrier by passenger traffic. The report said that talks are only at a preliminary stage, and cited anonymous sources familiar with the matter. No one at JFK Airport would confirm this report. Read more…
Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton congratulated Arthur Molins, who represents the Terminal One Group (TOGA) at JFK Airport, for the award of contract for the redevelopment of Terminals 1, 2 and part of 3. This contract award for TOGA, which is comprised of airlines Lufthansa, JAL, Korean and Air France, is a $7 billion dollar investment by the TOGA group and a consortium of investors in the Reimagining JFK redevelopment plan Read more…

JFK Airport Deputy GM Selden ascends to GM of Atlanta Airport.

John Selden is set to pilot Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as General Manager, effective October 1. Selden has been a behind the scenes mover at JFK Airport for the last four years, and was given a hearty farewell by work associates and long time friends. Shelley LaRose, Commissioner of MacArthur Airport remembers when John worked for her many years ago after he left American Airlines as a pilot to work Republic Airport in Farmingdale. Read more…
