JFK TWA Flight Center says hello to ‘Connie’

The TWA Flight Center welcomed the Lockheed Constellation tail number H8083H for the last time. The Starliner L-1649A “Connie” was carefully cradled into place reunited with her wings April 9th as a lounge and event venue for the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport. Read more…

JFK Redevelopment Advisory Council gears up

The JFK Redevelopment Advisory Council, principals in the airport redevelopment and community stakeholders met to discuss updates to development activities. On hand were Chairs Congressman Meeks and Borough President Melinda Katz, Port Authority representatives, many of the Advisory Council and community members to hear specific activities of the committees, restate goals and to talk inclusion. IBID GatewayJFK’s Spring Clean-Up

Just in time for spring GatewayJFK, a Queens industrial business improvement district (IBID), launched a new neighborhood beautification program along Rockaway Blvd. Supported by Councilman Donovan Richards, the kickoff was a 2-day cleanup where 10 Wildcat Services workers went over every street, sidewalk and median in the 215-acre district to make sure that the neighborhood was thoroughly cleaned. Wildcat Services provide transitional employment and vocational training to public assistance recipients, justice-involved individuals and residents of homeless shelters. Read more…

Speeding up to the Van Wyck Expressway

The NYS Department of Transportation held one more meeting for the public concerning the proposed improvements on the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678). Due to current congestion, once the JFK Airport development is underway, the DOT is planning to add a lane and improve access between Kew Gardens interchange and JFK Airport. According to the DOT, the $1.22 billion project will improve vehicular access to and from the airport and the project will address operational, geometric, and structural deficiencies in this area. The TWA Hotel is due to open on May 15th. One key attraction of the Hotel is the use of a restored Lockheed Constellation aircraft affectionately called “Connie”. The Connie will be used as an on ground passenger lounge for a place to mingle and have a drink for travelers as well as hotel guests. Read more…

Leadership honors forwomen at LGA

The “Boots on the Ground” event honored women from the Port Authority, Gateway One Group, LaGuardia Gateway Partners, Delta Airlines and Maser Consulting at LaGuardia Airport’s Marine Air Terminal. Ten women who work at the airport were honored for their leadership and continued service to the aviation field. This event was primarily for women from LaGuardia Airport to have the opportunity to network with other women in aviation who they may not encounter in their regular day-to-day roles. General Manager Lysa Scully and Deputy General Manager Christina Callahan represent ascent to top management at LaGuardia, one of the country’s busiest airports. Read more…
