State allocates $3 million for breast cancer research

Governor Cuomo recently announced nearly $3 million in funding will be awarded to projects across New York for breast cancer research.

These grants will encourage innovative research into the causes of breast cancer, as well as prevention, detection or screening, treatment, survivorship and cure, along with the design of new educational strategies to help people reduce specific risk factors associated with developing breast cancer. Grants through Peter T. Rowley Breast Cancer Scientific Research Projects and Patricia S. Brown Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Education Research Projects.

As in years before, this October airlines and aviation companies around New York will promote awareness of Breast Cancer, raise charitable contributions and support the Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Delta employees have been “thinking pink” by selling T-shirts, pink lemonade and pink martinis, as well as educating women on the dangers of breast cancer while providing basic information to help prevent or recognize this terrible disease. The launch of Pink Boutiques in September in many employee locations such as flight attendant lounges, call centers and employee break rooms. The boutiques will offer special pink items, bracelets etc. and have two stores at T2 and in their in-flight service lounge.

The Airlines for America organization creates awareness of how many airlines are supporting this important month. Here are some of these activities:

AA also flies a special livery place which encourages to stand up to cancer.

JetBlue has active partnerships with many charitable organizations, including Angel Flight, which provides free air transportation services to patients and families who need access to treatment options outside of their area. To donate TrueBlue points to Angel Flight.

Southwest has partnered with a number of organizations dedicated to bringing awareness and support to those diagnosed with cancer. Find out more about how you can donate you Rapid Rewards points to the Dream Foundation, Make-A-Wish and the Ronald McDonald House.

To make a difference this October, donate your United Mileage Plus miles to make a difference in cancer research and patient support. Available charities include the American Cancer Society, the Cleveland Clinic, Golfers Against Cancer, Make-A-Wish, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the National Cancer Prevention Fund.

UPS celebrates Global Volunteer Month in October. In 2016, the UPS team and supporters contributed a total of 2.7 million volunteer hours in various fields across the country. Together with the UPS Foundation, UPS encourages everyone to give back this October to a cause close to their heart.

The 14th annual departure of Delta’s ‘Breast Cancer One “survivor flight on Monday, October 1st honored over 140 breast cancer survivors with festivities beginning at the gate in Atlanta before the pink plane makes its way to Boston, where survivors will enjoy another gate event and an overnight stay.

A Delta jet has the familiar pink breast cancer awareness colors which demonstrate Delta’s support for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and brings awareness to fighting this disease.
