The third community forum was held by the Port Authority to bring the airport communities input into the JFK Redevelopment plan. The Port panel highlighted the jobs currently available, through the terminals, jobs to come over the next several years from the Governor Cuomo’s $10 billion vision plan for JFK Airport and jobs from a community benefit program. This recent meeting was held in Southeast Queens and as with the others, the Port representatives stressed their commitment to involve the Queens communities in the redevelopment process before actual construction begins and to bring jobs to the community boosting the MWBE participation to 30% of jobs created. New JFKIAT President welcomed to JFK by TFAC

Roel Huinink, new President and CEO of JFKIAT Terminal 4 being welcomed by Ajay Dhawan, President of Terminal Four Airlines Consortium at the recent TFAC monthly meeting. Huinink was introduced to many airline managers and personnel, business partners, federal agencies and Port Authority people at the after-meeting luncheon to get acquainted on his first day on the job. 9-11 memorial set for JFK ball field

The airport and surrounding communities are invited to come to the ball field at 7:30 am for a ecumenical invocation which will be followed by a 90 minute assembly of community members who wish to remember those killed on September 11, 2001. Moderated by JFK General Manager Charles Everett, many organizations will have speakers sharing remembrances and names of those who passed that day including police, firefighters, Port Authority and airline personnel along with family members of those who died just taking a routine flight. All will be honored with love and support. Two moments of silence will be observed for the times of the two plane attacks. Read more…

The JFK Airport Committee (JFKAC) held the initial meeting of the JFK Community Benefits Coalition for the JFK Redevelopment Program, at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, This was chaired by Barbara Brown, Chairperson of the New York Community Aviation Roundtable (NYCAR) initiator of the meeting which was facilitated by Tom Curry. Aviation fair brings job seekers

The Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, The Port Authority of NY&NJ and the Council for Airport Opportunity brought hundreds of aviation job seekers together at the Aviation Job Fair held in the Helen Marshall Cultural Center in Kew Gardens. Queens Borough Hall. President Katz welcomed job seekers and praised the work that the recruiters and supporters are doing in bringing awareness and jobs to her borough. Read more…

LGA Kiwanis kids to Kamp

35 children from East Elmhurst/LGA communities were sent to Kamp Kiwanis is an overnight Camp that provides opportunities for young people to develop characteristics of leadership & fair play. The Kamp is located on 102 acres of open wooded land in the rolling foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. In this environment, these under-served children ages 8-14 years participated in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities from arts and crafts to sports. The Kiwanis Club of LaGuardia Airport is the only airport club in the world, sending 25-35 youth to Kamp each summer, changing the world one child and one community at a time. Read more…

The 2018 Dan Ferrante JFK Golf Outing and Gala Dinner was held this year and well attended by so many supportive members of the JFK Airport Community. Each year participants remember Dan by attending this memorial event and helping raise proceeds for various cancer care organizations as St. Judes Hospital and others . This year the First Company Pink was one of the new recipients. ”Pink” works for the prevention and early testing of breast cancer. Read more…

Senators push for EPA Office of Noise Abatement

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced the Quiet Communities Act, legislation that would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reestablish an Office of Noise Abatement and Control and reauthorize the Office’s activities through fiscal year 2023. This legislation would empower the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to oversee airplane noise issues across the country, including airplane noise-plagued areas near JFK and LaGuardia airports. Currently, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) oversees airplane noise issues, however, Schumer and Gillibrand explained that the EPA is better fit to address these matters, as its main focus is to protect human health and the environment. The Community Youth Care Services (CYCSI) arranged for 27 elementary school children to have a JFK Airport Day. Cheryl Caddle, Executive Director of the CYCSI, worked with the Felita Tross of the FAA, Fire Department and Police canine unit at JFK to have the children spent several hours at the airport interacting with the Airport Rescue Fire Fighters (ARFF), Port Police dogs and Air Traffic Control Tower professionals who explained what their jobs entail and what they do at the airport. The JFK Rotry Club held is Summer Delight networking event at the Bay House Restaurant on a beautiful night in August. Based on the attendance and spirit of the members and friends of the Rotary it was a success. A series of NASA flight tests has successfully demonstrated technologies that achieve a significant reduction in the noise generated by aircraft and heard by communities near airports. The aliyah at JFK Airport today was touching. Ron Werner of the Jewish National Fund comforts Heidi Rothberg’s tears of joy seeing over 250 people emigrate — make aliyah — to Israel. This flight was named after Heidi because of her tireless work and support of the Olim. Heidi Rothberg Aliyah Flight 2018. El Al executives Yoram Eligrabli, and Gil Radomsky and President Roel Huinink were on hand with many other supporters to see the 250 Olim leave New York for a new life in Israel. Just before going through security dozens of loved ones hugged tightly not knowing when they would see each other again.

NYCEDC announces RFP for land parcel adjacent to JFK Airport

New York City Economic Development Corporation (“NYCEDC”) is pleased to release this Request for Proposals (“RFP”) on behalf of the City of New York (“City”) for the long-term ground lease and development of an approximately four-acre vacant property (“Site”) located on the south side of Rockaway Boulevard at the corner of Eastern Road and abutting John F. Kennedy International Airport (“JFK”) on part of Block 14260, Lot 1 in Queens. NYCEDC seeks proposals that take advantage of the Site’s unique location to construct a logistics, distribution, and/or freight-related airport-compatible facility. Read more…

ODAP students have a great FAA field day

Students learned about careers in aviation from FAA Air Traffic Controllers and pilots in New York at the Aviation Career Education Camp with Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) held on Long Island. This is one of the many ACE Academy programs that provide middle and high school youth with exposure to opportunities in aerospace and aviation through week long summer camps. In additon ODAP runs a career Expo which takes place August 14-17. Read more…
